Introducing “Thomas”…

Hi  there!

I started this crib blanket late last year but never had a chance to finish it.

Between making commissioned pieces, hosting Christmas, ringing in the New Year and then deciding it would be a great time to begin changing our flooring, I just didn’t have the time.

But now we’ve taken a break from changing the flooring (I needed a break from the dust – we’re putting hardwood down) so I had the chance to finally complete the blanket and get the pattern written.

I was inspired by the Burberry colours and hence the name “Thomas” as in “Thomas Burberry”. 😉

It’s a really simple blanket pattern that utilizes only the knit stitch and simple colour changes.  I used “Red Heart Soft” yarn.  It was wonderful to work with.  The blanket ended up nice and cushy!

The finished size is approximately 35″ X 46″ so would make for a really nice lapghan too!

The patterns are available for sale over at loveknitting.com, in my Etsty store and on Craftsy.com.

If you give it a try, please share a photo on my Facebook page! I would love to see your work!

Happy knitting!

One down…

Hello everyone.

I wanted to share with you one of the blankets I made for a Christmas gift.

I’m just thrilled with how it turned out and you can be sure I’ll be making one for myself! 😀

As most knitters know, when you use the stockinette stitch without some sort of border, your edges will curl.  So when I was designing this blanket, I purposely didn’t add a border so the curled edges would create a soft, ripply edge on the blanket.

So if you want to make one too, here’s what you’ll need to know!

I used 5 balls of Caron Simply Soft yarn in Autumn Red and US size 8 circular needles (36″),

Cast on 200 stitches.

Row 1 – 20: Knit 20, Purl 20 across the row

Row 21 – 40: Purl 20, Knit 20 across the row

Repeat above pattern until you have come to the end of the 5 balls

Cast off on row 40.

The finished size is 43″w X 55″ l.

Well off to try and get my second blanket done in time for Christmas. Wish me luck! LOL!

Happy knitting!

“Peacock” Stroller Blanket…

Hello everyone.

The “Peacock” Stroller Blanket pattern is now available to purchase over in my Etsy shop, in my Craftsy store and at loveknitting.com.

This basket weave blanket is perfect to tuck baby in for an afternoon walk in the park.  Whether it be for an added layer now or as the only layer in the Spring, it’s sure to end up being the “go to” stroller blanket!

It’s made with approximately 600 yards of Aran weight yarn and US size 8 needles.  It utilizes only knit and purl stitches with simple colour changes so it’s a great pattern for a beginner knitter.

Happy knitting!

A little side tracked…

Good afternoon!

Well, I was almost done my “Peacock” blanket so I thought it would be a good time to start another project!! It just didn’t seem right to only have 1 project on the go!! LOL!!

Burberry was my inspiration for this blanket.  I love the classic tan, black and red.  This blanket is knit lengthwise to get the vertical stripes.

I have to say, it’s going to be one of my bigger blankets!  It will be the PERFECT lapghan size measuring, I hope, about 40″ x 48″.

Well, off to do some knitting! Now I have two blankets to get finished and get the patterns written for!

A request for patterns…

Hello Mr. Fox…

Hi there!

I now have my second baby blanket up in my Etsy shop!

I call it “Mr. Fox”.

The stitch I used on this blanket is the “Nubby Sand Stitch”.  A very easy stitch that gives you a wonderfully cushy texture.

Here’s the pattern:

Cast on an odd number of stitches
Row 1 – knit every stitch across the row
Row 2 – K1, P1 across the row
Repeat rows 1 and 2 for the pattern

If you give it a try, I’d love to see it.  Feel free to share it on my Facebook page.

Happy knitting!

I did it…

Well I did it! 😀

I opened an Etsy shop!! You can click here to see it!

I only have 1 item for sale right now (LOL), but I’ll be working this summer to fill it up.

I’m going to be making baby and toddler blankets and probably some baby bunting bags too!

I’m so excited about this.

Here’s the next blanket I’m making.

I’m using what is called the “Nubby Sand Stitch”.  So much wonderful texture.

Well, off to make a bit more headway on this blanket!

Happy knitting!

Pretty in pink…

Hello there.

So, I’ve finished my pink blanket! 😀

It’s so pretty and soft! I just love how it turned out.

Using US size 8 circular needles, I casted on 135 stitches and followed the pattern below.

Row 1 – knit 3, purl 3 across the row

Row 2 – knit 3, purl 3 across the row

Row 3 – purl 3, knit 3 across the row

Row 4 – purl 3, knit 3 across the row

I used Caron Simply Soft premium acrylic yarn – 1 ball of Watermelon and 2 balls of Soft Pink.  The finished blanket measures 33″ X 44″.  The perfect sized crib blanket or toddler blanket.

I’ve been toying with the idea of selling on Etsy, and have finally decided to do it.  I love making things and most times don’t have anyone to gift the items to!

So with that being said, if you know of someone interested in this blanket, it’s for SALE!

Happy knitting!

“Pay it forward” gift #2

I just wanted to stop by quickly and show you the finished blanket I made for my second Facebook “Pay it Forward” gift.

DSCN4254I used 4 balls of Bernat Super Value yarn and US size 8 circular knitting needles.

I casted on 180 stitches and slipped the first stitch purl wise, knitted across the row, then purled the last stitch.  I did this for every row creating a garter stitch blanket with an I-cord edge.

When I came close to the end of one colour and wanted to add my next colour, I knit  2 rows of my one colour, then 2 rows of my next colour and I did this twice so you would have 2 stripes of the new colour intertwined with 2 stripes of the colour before.

DSCN4255

This one is heading to Sault Ste. Marie for my godson and his family.  😀
