The Lakehouse blanket…

Hello everyone.

I’ve finished the Lakehouse Blanket I’ve been making for a friend of mine!

I created it based on my Classic 2-Tone Baby Blanket pattern.  But instead of using 2 strands of DK yarn, I used a chunky yarn, and I casted on more stitches in order to make it adult sized.

I won’t share with you though the name of the yarn I used because it was awful to work with and I wouldn’t recommend it; it unraveled as I knit.  UGH!  I adore the colourway, but not the yarn.

If you would like to create one for yourself, here’s the pattern:

Approximately 1400 yards of a chunky yarn.

US size 10.5 circular needles.  These are used to hold the stitches only as the piece is knit flat.

Cast on 150 stitches.

Knit every row for 20 rows.

Row 21 – knit the first 12 stitches, purl the next 126 stitches, knit the last 12 stitches.

Row 22 – knit across the entire row.

Repeat rows 21 and 22 (alternating between the two) until your blanket measures about 50″ in TOTAL.  This will give you a garter stitch border and a stockinette stitch centre.

Once you are at about 50″, knit every row for 20 rows casting off on the 20th row.

The approximate finished size will be 42″ x 54″.

Now off to finish the 2 baby blankets for co-workers and then I really need to focus on finishing up some patterns!

If you give this blanket a try, I would love to see it.  Feel free to send any photos to diana.poirier@yahoo.ca.

Happy knitting.

The birthday blanket is done…

Hello everyone!

I’m just popping in to share with you the COMPLETED birthday blanket! 😀

I took a bit longer to finish it than I had hoped, but I got it done in time for this weekend when my girlfriend and her husband come over for dinner! Whew!!

If you would like to make one for yourself, here’s what you’ll need to know:

I used 7 balls of Caron Simply Soft yarn in Grey Heather Tweed and US size 8 circular needles.

Cast on 200 stitches.

Row 1 – 20: Knit 20, Purl 20 across the row.

Row 21 – 40: Purl 20, Knit 20 across the row.

Repeat above pattern until you have come close to the end of the 7 balls.

Cast off on row 20. (you will have a bit of yarn left over)

I purchased my yarn from YarnCanada.ca.  The prices are very reasonable and the delivery is quick!

I’m almost finished my Lakehouse blanket and then I’ll be knitting 2 baby blankets for a couple of sweet baby girls! I don’t get to knit with pink often, so I’m excited about that!

I’ll post pictures of the Lakehouse blanket when I’m done!

Happy knitting.

It feels like forever…

Hi everyone!

It feels like forever since I’ve posted anything.

I’ve had so much going on I really haven’t had much time.

My girlfriend’s birthday has come and gone and I wasn’t able to give her the blanket I was making for her.  BUT, on a positive note, I only have 1 more ball of yarn to go!

We’re having her and her husband over for supper February 23rd, and I know for sure it will be done by then! 😀

I’ve also started on another blanket for a friend who bought a lakehouse this past summer.  I chose some yarn that reminded me of lakes.  This blanket is based on my “Classic 2-Tone Baby Blanket” pattern.  You can go to my “Free Patterns” page to download the pattern.

Today for sure I have to work on the birthday blanket, so I’m off to do that.

Happy knitting!

Appalachian Yarn Company KAL…

Hello everyone.

Back last November, I was asked by Brenda at the Appalachian Yarn Company if she could use my Back Porch Shawl pattern for her stores next beginner “Knit-A-Long”.

I, of course, was thrilled and told her “sure”!

Today, Brenda sent me pictures of one of the completed shawls done by Nancy, who lead the Knit-A-Long.  She chose to knit with Alpaca and Merino wool.

Isn’t this absolutely stunning?? ❤ I just LOVE the colours she chose!

Thank you for sharing…

I just LOVE it when customers share their finished projects with me!

J. sent me a picture of her completed “Chilly Day Poncho”.  She purchased my pattern over at loveknitting.com.  I adore the 2 tone grey and how she put a border of the darker colour on the bottom of her poncho.thumbnail

Thank you for sharing J.  You did an amazing job!

Happy knitting everyone.

A birthday present…

Hello everyone and Happy New Year!

I’m lucky to have today off work so I’m taking advantage of having no one home except my puppy and he’s napping so I’m knitting! Of course!

I’ve put aside my poncho I’ve been working on to make a birthday present for a friend. It’s her birthday at the end of January.

I’m using a pattern I’ve used before (you can find it by clicking here) but this time I’m using a Tweed yarn from Caron Simply Soft I purchased from YarnCanada.ca.  I have to use 7 balls instead of 5 though, as the balls of tweed yarn are a bit smaller.

This is my first time using this tweed yarn and I’m absolutely loving the results.

Well, off to get this blanket done. 😀

Happy knitting!

This year they teamed up with Bernat and Paton Yarns to be able to offer $2000 worth of yarn to 2 groups and 10 individuals! That’s A LOT of yarn!!

You have until January 5, 2019 to submit your application so what are you waiting for?

Good luck!

Rainbow Sherbet…

Here it is! My stashbuster rainbow sherbet blanket!

DSCN8268

DSCN8271

The whole blanket was knit using Caron Simply Soft yarns.  I don’t know how much yarn I used exactly, as it was yarn that was already used for a few smaller projects along with unused balls, but if I had to guess, I would say around 6 balls using 2 strands of yarn at one time. Here is the link to the pattern again that this blanket is based on.

When I was coming close to the end of one colour combination (orange and yellow), I knit one row of the next colour combination (yellow and green), then knit a row of the old colour combination, repeating this until there were 3 rows of the new colour combination intertwined with the old colour combination.  This gives the the colour changes more of a gradient look.

Anyway, I’m off to start a new version of my “Chilly Day Poncho”.  I hope it turns out the way I’ve been imagining it!

Enjoy your weekend! It’s rainy and cold here.  A PERFECT day to stay in and knit! 😀
