Stashbuster blanket…

Hello everyone!

I bought some yarn last year with something in mind I’m sure, but by the time I got to it, I had totally forgotten what I had bought it for! LOL!

So, I decided I would just make a blanket.  It reminds me of summertime and Sherbet!! 😀

I’m using a go to blanket pattern I found when I first started knitting.  You can find the pattern over on the Painting Lilies blog by clicking here.

It’s created using 2 strands of yarn at one time, one of my favourite things to do to create beautiful and unique colourways!

I’m almost done and then I’m going to make myself another Chilly Day Poncho, but I’m going to change it up a bit. I’ll share with you what I do, so stay tuned.

Now off to fill up my coffee mug and finish this blanket!

Happy knitting!

It became an Infinity scarf…

Hello everyone.

Last week I posted a picture of a WIP using up some left over yarn I had.

I didn’t know if I was going to use it as a shawl or a scarf.  In the end, I sewed the 2 ends together and made an infinity scarf.

Because I used 3 strands of yarn at one time, it’s super thick so will be really warm for the blustery winter they’re predicting for us.

And it’s quite wide, so can use it as a hood too.

Well, off to finish a baby blanket for a friend whose daughter-in-law is expecting in January.

Happy knitting!

I’ve been busy, but not with knitting…

I can’t believe it’s almost a month since I posted anything!

I’m still knitting (LOL), but quite sparingly, as we brought home this cutie just 4 weeks ago and he has taken up ALL of our time!

His name is Sam and he’s a standard poodle.

He’s settled in now and is on a schedule so I know when he naps, which is right now! 😀 Hence why I’m able to write a blog post!

I’m working away on my Downtown Mission hats and have started a scarf/wrap? out of leftover yarn I’ve had in my stash.  I’m using 3 strands of yarn at one time for some really unique colouring and a piece that has some amazing weight to it for warmth.  I’m thinking I may use it as a wrap instead of a scarf as I didn’t follow a pattern and the amount of stitches I used created something I think may be too wide for a scarf.  I’ll see when I’m done.

Have a great day!

A little late starting…

Hello everyone!

Every year I knit as many hats as I can for our local Downtown Mission.

I’m a little late getting going this year (perhaps our warm weather has something to do with that!) but I’ve finally started.

I’ve managed to complete 4 hats in the last few days and have another one on my needles as I write.

I find its a great way to use up left over yarn and it benefits the community at the same time.

If you would like to knit up some hats for charity, click here for my Cozy Winter Hat pattern. It’s super simple and very quick!

Happy knitting!

Chilly Day Poncho…

My “Chilly Day Poncho” pattern is now available exclusively over at loveknitting.com!

It’s knit using 2 strands of Paintbox Yarns Simply Aran yarn held together making it a super warm and thick poncho.

Knit in 2 pieces and sewn together, this pattern is great for a knitter looking to make their first garment.

Head on over and download your pattern today!

Happy knitting!

Baby blanket…done!

Hello everyone!

I was happy I found some time today to do some knitting.

I managed to finish the baby blanket I was making for my husband’s co-worker.

The blanket is based on a pattern I found on Pinterest. Click HERE to read it.

It’s super easy to follow. Instead of adding 3 stripes at the one corner, I did one big stripe in off white.

I used Caron Simply Soft yarn and US size 8 needles.

I have a pattern that’s due mid August for Paintbox Yarns and I’m “this close” to getting it done, so off I go to finish it!

Happy knitting.

Yarn Review…Lion Brand “Hometown USA”…

Good afternoon everyone!

A little while back, I mentioned to you some yarn that was sent to me to review – Lion Brand “Hometown USA”.  Well, I’ve finally had some time to play with it.

canvas

Lion Brand “Hometown USA” – review

TYPE OF YARN:  100% Acrylic Super Bulky (made in the USA).

KNITTING:  It’s a wonderfully soft yarn with a very vibrant colour.  I found when I first started knitting with it, the ends did unravel a bit but as I got further along in the piece, this was no longer an issue.  The stitch definition is good.  I feel this yarn would look best with a more textured stitch (Garter, Moss) than a flat stitch (Stockinette).

PACKAGING: Comes in a 81 yard ball (5oz)

GAUGE:  This yarn knits up true to gauge on US size 13 needles (9mm) at 9 stitches and 12 rows for 4″.  This is unblocked.

WASHING:  Machine washable and dryable.  I would suggest washing in cold water and a low tumble dry.

WHAT TO MAKE:  This is a super chunky yarn, so any project would knit up quickly.  If you’re looking for a weekend project, it would be perfect for chunky scarves and cowls or for pillow cushions. If you have more time, consider making a luscious baby blanket or a very appreciated couch throw.  It would also be ideal for Autumn wraps.

This yarn is available in a wide assortment of colours from loveknitting.com and if you head over there before the end of July, there are some colours that are ON SALE for 25% off!

Happy knitting!

My yarn arrived…

Hello everyone!

This big box of beautiful yarn arrived on my doorstep this morning!

DSCN5863

Loveknitting.com sent it to me for FREE in exchange for a yarn review!  Not a bad deal if I do say so myself! 😉

I selected a yarn I’ve never used before just to try something new.  It’s “Hometown USA” by Lion Brand in “Vermont Green” and it’s super chunky.  And guess what?? It’s ON SALE right now over at Loveknitting.com!!

I know EXACTLY what I want to make with it and will hopefully get it started this weekend!

In way of a review; a full one will be done once I start knitting with it, but what I can tell you right now, is it’s amazingly soft and the colour is very vibrant.

Stay tuned for more…
