What I’ve been up to…

Hello everyone!

I haven’t posted anything in awhile, BUT I have still been knitting.

I found out one of my co-workers is expecting a baby in October so I decided I would knit a baby blanket.  I haven’t knit a baby blanket in a long time so it’s a real nice change.  My co-worker and his wife don’t know what they’re having so I chose classic yellow.

It’s a really simple pattern with a 3″ garter stitch border and the stockinette stitch in the centre.  I’m double knitting it so it’s super cozy!!

I’m also working on a pair of slippers using a cotton yarn with a bit of stretch in it.  I love the knitted slippers but I find that after a few wears I have to wash them to get their shape back.

I thought if I used a yarn with a bit of stretch, this problem may be eliminated.  I found a photo of some knitted baby slippers on Pinterest that I thought would also make great adult slippers.

If they turn out and I LOVE them, I will write up the pattern for them so you can make a pair too!  I’m almost done the knitting part.  I will just have to assemble them afterwards.

Now off to try and finish one of these projects.  I have so many others I want to start but have told myself I have to complete one before starting another!! LOL!!

Happy knitting!

A blanket, a hat and some socks! Oh my…

Hello everyone!

Just to let you know, I’m still working on my blanket (LOL) and I did get a bit more done, but I got distracted by some beautiful teal yarn I bought a while ago and started making a hat!

This yarn is 80% acrylic and 20% Alpaca.  I’m allergic to wool but “they” say Alpaca is hypoallergenic! I thought I would try knitting with an Alpaca blend first before embarking on any projects that are 100% Alpaca just to make sure I didn’t have a reaction to it.  So far, so good!

I just love the texture!

My husband has also been asking me to make him another pair of socks.  He got the first pair I made, but they’re very loose as the yarn I used was too thin.  The sock pattern uses a different size needle than the hat, so I thought, why not? Let’s start those too!!

So needless to say, I now have 3 projects on the go! But I love it! It gives me variety!

Well off to work on the socks now.  I’m at the part where I have to pick up stitches and I’m not very good at doing this yet so I prefer to do this during the day when I have the most light.  Nothing worse then trying to make new stitches when you can’t see what you’re doing! LOL!

Happy knitting!

It’s going slower than I thought…

Well it’s been a few days since I picked up my blanket to finish it, and I’m not even close to done yet!

I think because it’s such a BIG blanket, I get a little bored with knitting it.  I’m only using 1 colour of yarn right now and the same stitch over and over.  There’s not a lot of variety.  Maybe I shouldn’t have tried to make it so big. LOL!!

So, to break up the monotony a bit, I started knitting a pair of fingerless gloves to go with this cute hat I made a while ago.

Here’s the hat.  It’s a beautiful camel colour and super cushy  because I used 2 strands of DK yarn at one time to knit it.

And here’s the start of the gloves.

Well, I’m off to work a bit on the blanket and then on the gloves and then back to the blanket!!

I’m sure hoping to get the blanket done before the end of this year!! 😉

Happy knitting!

Now that Christmas is over…

Hello everyone!

Now that the Christmas knitting rush is over, I finally have time to finish up some projects I started last summer.

I was on a HUGE blanket knitting kick when I first learned how to knit and I still have 2 left to finish. So, I thought I would finish the one that is most complete.

I’m using a very chunky yarn, big needles and an easy pattern so I should finish it quickly.

Click here for the blanket pattern I used.  I have made 5 other blankets with this pattern because it’s just so easy.

Below is one of my completed blankets using this pattern.

For this yellow and grey blanket, I pretty much followed the pattern only modifying how many colours I used.

For the blanket I’m now finishing up, I switched out the 2 worsted weight yarns for the 1 super chunky weight yarn and size 15 needles.

Well off to finish up my blanket.  It’s suppose to get really cold next week and I want to be ready!

Happy knitting!
