Super easy winter hat…

Good afternoon everyone!

I thought I would share today a super easy hat pattern. You can literally complete this hat in a few hours!

It consists of your basic ribbing (knit 1, purl 1)and the garter stitch (knitting every row).  I used 2 strands of DK yarn at one time to make it extra cozy.

You can find the pattern here!

Time to get started…

Hi everyone!

I know it’s the middle of summer, but it’s time to get started making my Christmas presents for family and friends!

I’ve already started my father’s scarf he requested.  When I asked him what colour he would like, he said for me just to make it from leftovers from other projects.  So, that’s what I’ve been doing.  Here it is so far:

I’m also still working on items for my pattern book I’m hoping to have available in September.  There will be 4 new never published patterns in it, along with 4 others of my favourites.  It will be available as a downloadable PDF.

AND, in between all this, I’m still knitting hats and scarves to donate to the local downtown mission in hopes to keep some less fortunate people a little warmer this winter.

In fact, all of the items I create to write and test my patterns get donated, so there’s already a little pile started!

It’s a bit cooler here today and it’s raining! What a wonderful change from the heat we’ve had.  Here’s hoping this weather stays around for a bit.

Happy knitting!

The classic baby blanket…

Good morning!

I’ve completed the baby blanket for my co-worker and the pattern I wrote to go with it.

It’s a super easy pattern that would work with just about any colour combination – navy blue and light blue, fuchsia and light pink, egg plant and lavender – the possibilities are endless!  The trendy colour combination for baby rooms these days is yellow and grey!

I chose to use yellows (Citron and Lemon) for this blanket as my co-worker and his wife do not know what the gender of the baby is.

Try #2…

Hi there.

Recently I mentioned I saw a photo of some baby slippers I really liked and wanted to re-create them, but for adults.  And yesterday I posted a picture of the slipper I made but it turned out way too large!  Needless to say,  I had to go back and re-think my pattern.

The funny thing is though, sometimes when you make a mistake, something better emerges from it.  And that’s exactly what happened with these slippers.

I’m a big fan of making two items at one time whether it be slippers, socks or gloves, and this time it was no different.  So, I already had the pieces made for my second slipper but didn’t assemble it after seeing how large the slippers had turned out.

So, playing around with the longest of the 2 pieces I had knitted (because initially my slippers were going to be 2 pieces) I was trying to determine how big to make my next pair of slippers by folding this one piece into different shapes.  Then it hit me;  I could create my slippers by using just one long strip!

Here’s my prototype.DSCN3112

Now I just have to finish knitting the new pieces and sew them up.

I’m really excited to show you when they’re done and share my new pattern!

Stay tuned!

What I’ve been up to…

Hello everyone!

I haven’t posted anything in awhile, BUT I have still been knitting.

I found out one of my co-workers is expecting a baby in October so I decided I would knit a baby blanket.  I haven’t knit a baby blanket in a long time so it’s a real nice change.  My co-worker and his wife don’t know what they’re having so I chose classic yellow.

It’s a really simple pattern with a 3″ garter stitch border and the stockinette stitch in the centre.  I’m double knitting it so it’s super cozy!!

I’m also working on a pair of slippers using a cotton yarn with a bit of stretch in it.  I love the knitted slippers but I find that after a few wears I have to wash them to get their shape back.

I thought if I used a yarn with a bit of stretch, this problem may be eliminated.  I found a photo of some knitted baby slippers on Pinterest that I thought would also make great adult slippers.

If they turn out and I LOVE them, I will write up the pattern for them so you can make a pair too!  I’m almost done the knitting part.  I will just have to assemble them afterwards.

Now off to try and finish one of these projects.  I have so many others I want to start but have told myself I have to complete one before starting another!! LOL!!

Happy knitting!

A tower of towels…

Good afternoon everyone!

So I’ve completed all the towels for my co-workers.

I really hope they love using them as much as I love using mine!

If you’d like to make your own dish towel, you can find my pattern here.

I still have to make one more towel using a  new pattern I created, but since I’ve made so many towels lately, I’ve started another project to mix things up a bit.

Here’s a sneak peek.

Once I’m done this project, I’ll be offering the pattern for free so stay tuned! 😀

Well, off to get this finished and the pattern written.

Happy knitting!

A new pattern…almost

Hi there!

I’ve finished the dish towel for myself, BUT…it didn’t turn out exactly how I wanted it to.  For the stripes, I used a light cream cotton and a light grey cotton and I don’t think there’s enough contrast in the colours.  I would like to see more contrast.

Sooo, I’ll be adjusting the pattern a bit that I wrote and making another towel to showcase it.

I promise once this is done, I’ll share the pattern.

In the meantime, here’s my new towel.

Happy knitting!

My yarn arrived…

So my order of yarn finally arrived the other day from loveknitting.com and I was able to finish my dish towel I was making!

I have already used it and now it’s my absolute favourite!

And of course I’ve started a second one to make a set! 😀

It’s so super easy you should make one too!  Click here for the pattern!

the wedding present…

Hello everyone!

I’ve completed the second cushion of the set for the wedding present for my co-worker.

Here’s the second cushion using the same colours as in the first cushion – chocolate brown and cream.  I created the “heathered” look by knitting with the 2 coloured strands at the same time.

DSCN2789

DSCN2790

For this cushion cover I used just your basic garter stitch (knitting every row).  I used US size 9 needles and casted on 60 stitches of a DK weight yarn.  I knit with the two colours of yarn at the same time and continued until the piece measured 30″ in length.  The finished cushion is 16″X16″.

Here are the two cushions together.

Well off to find a box to put them in so I can wrap them up and bring them to work with me tomorrow!

a dish towel or 2…

Hi everyone!

Yes, I’m still working on the second cushion for my co-worker’s wedding present, BUT yesterday I received my order from loveknitting.com and just had to  start the project I purchased the yarn for! LOL!

I’ve never knit with cotton before but wanted to give it a try and make some new dish towels for my kitchen. So far, I really like working with the cotton.

Here’s a sneak peek of my soon to be dish towel.

DSCN2777

I’m using “Rico Creative Cotton Aran”.

Well, off to finish the dish towel and the cushion.

I’ll post pictures of both when I’m done.

Happy knitting!
